Dr. Maltais is the Chair of Practice, Associate Professor of Surgery, and Surgical Director of the Mechanical Circulatory Support Program in the Department of Cardiovascular Surgery at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. He moved to this institution and had previously been at Vanderbilt University Medical Center (Nashville, TN), where he was the Surgical Director of the Heart Transplantation and Mechanical Circulatory Support Programs. He has been a member of the ISHLT society since 2009, and participated frequently to the ISHLT meeting. He is a member of a number of other professional organizations including the prestigious American Association of Thoracic Surgery (AATS), the Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS), the Society of Cardiac Surgeons (SCS), the American Heart Association (AHA), the Southern Thoracic Surgical Association (STSA), and the American Society for Artificial Internal Organs (ASAIO) among others. Among several other peer journals, Dr. Maltais continues to be a reviewer for the Journal of Heart and Lung Transplantation. In 2015, he co-chaired a session during the MCS Master Course Academy and co-chaired the MCS Academy in 2016. He is also a part of the editorial board of the ASAIO Journal, and the chair for the ASAIO 2017 meeting. Dr. Maltais has demonstrated a constant scientific productivity over the last few years.  He has published and authored or co-authored over 90 academic articles, including over 20 articles as a first author and 18 as a senior author, 75 abstracts in national and international meetings, 7 textbook chapters, and 5 audiovisual presentations. The publications have garnered over 800 citations online. From a clinical practice standpoint, his interests focus on advanced heart failure surgery, the application and development of less invasive MCS implant strategies, and robotic/less invasive approaches for valve interventions.
