Dr. Kroemer is the Scientific Director of the Transplant Immunology Laboratory within the Center for Translational Transplant Medicine as well as a Transplant Surgery Attending at the MedStar Georgetown Transplant Institute. In this dually appointed role between Georgetown University and MedStar Hospital, Dr. Kroemer splits his time between performing transplants of livers, intestines, kidneys, and pancreas in both adult and pediatric patients – including all aspects of pre and post-surgical care – and conducting research on the intersection of the innate and adaptive immune systems in both transplantation and oncology. His contributions to science fall into three categories: (1) the interplay between innate and adaptive immunity in alloimmune responses; (2) the role of innate lymphoid cells (ILCs) and T cells in inflammation and ischemia reperfusion injury (IRI); and (3) the role of innate and adaptive effector cells in tumor immunosurveillance. Dr. Kroemer’s training includes a Fellowship in Transplantation and Hepatobiliary Surgery at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital, Washington, DC, surgical residency at University Hospital Regensburg, Germany, and a postdoctoral fellowship at The Transplant Institute, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Harvard Medical School, Boston.
