Anita S. Chong, Ph.D. is professor of surgery at the University of Chicago in Chicago.  She is a transplant immunologist with research interests in transplantation tolerance, how infection promotes/influences rejection risk, how tolerance is maintained, as well as in defining new therapies to prevent solid organ rejection.  Her laboratory has also been interested in the role of B cells and antibodies, focusing on understanding how humoral immunity is controlled during the induction and maintenance of tolerance, and the consequence to the allograft when humoral immunity is incompletely controlled.  Dr. Chong’s research also includes a multidisciplinary effort to apply new nanotechnologies to developing adjuvant-free vaccines for infectious diseases.  Dr. Chong has served on several national and international grant review committees, including the Allergy, Immunology & Transplantation (AITRC), Transplantation, Tolerance and Tumor (TTT) Immunology NIH Study Section and The Welcome Trust.  She is also the Co-Chair of the Basic Science Committee of the Transplantation Society that is tasked with promoting transplantation science globally and a Council Member of the National Institutes of Allergy and Infectious Disease, National Institutes of Health.
