Dr Bellini graduated from the University of Tor Vergata in Rome (IT) in 2007, where she also trained as a general and transplant surgeon, achieving a certification of completion of training in 2014 and a research doctorate in 2015. She moved to the UK in 2013, to complete her PhD in Oxford (UK) and undertake further subspecialty training. During this time, she developed an interest in organ perfusion devices and she is now the responsible of the machine perfusion clinical program at Imperial College London (UK). She is a Fellow of the European Board of Surgery, an Associate Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and Board Member of the European Kidney Transplant Section (EKITA), a committee within ESOT (European Society of Organ Transplantation). In the past, she served as the Educational and Information Technology Representative for The Carrel Club, the Society of Transplant Trainees in the UK. 

Dr Bellini has a strong interest in academic surgery, pursuing this from the start of her career: she has authored more than 30 publications and reviewed for Transplantation Journal, Transplantation Direct, International Journal of Surgery and the Journal of the American College of Surgeons; she is also acting as a guest Editor for BioMed Research International on the special issue: "Renal Transplantation: What Has Changed in Recent years". Currently, she leads a research group and an interactive facebook platform for Women in Surgery on behalf of the Association of Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland (ASGBI); she is also the Editor of the ASGBI e-journal, Women in Surgery Section and one of the initiatives she successfully promoted was to build up a series of Women in Surgery mentors from all over the world entitled #HowIBecameAWomanInSurgery.
